Classification Introduction

Powdered activated carbon (PAC) is produced by grinding granules to a fine powder (typically of largest particle size less than 0.18 mm) giving this form a very large external surface area and consequent rapid adsorption kinetics. PAC is suitable for direct incorporation into process streams, tanks or reactors (used effectively in a “batch” fashion) for the removal of dissolved organic matter, colour and odour through to decontamination. Its main advantage lies in its speed of action and flexibility of usage makingPAC an ideal candidate wherever a problem of contamination exists which is liable to vary or occur on a seasonal basis. Not applicable to the fixed-bed system of its larger granule brother, PAC is a highly effective and economical agent for a large range of uses in the purification of liquid phases, in such diverse fields as water treatment and mineralisation to the purification of foodstuffs.

Relevant Application Scenarios

Water Treatment

Description:PAC is extensively used in liquid-phase treatment for its rapid removal of dissolved organics, micro-pollutants, taste, and odor compounds.

Wastewater treatment

Added to treatment systems to remove recalcitrant organic pollutants, toxic compounds, and color from industrial and municipal effluent.

Drinking Water Treatment

Used for emergency or seasonal removal of taste, odor, algal toxins, and synthetic organic chemicals to ensure safe, palatable water.

Desalination

Pre-treats feed water to remove organic foulants that can cause membrane scaling and biofouling, improving reverse osmosis efficiency.

Food & Beverage

Description: GAC decolorizes and purifies food products by removing impurities and off-flavors, maintaining quality and shelf life.

Food Decolorization

It adsorbs unwanted colors and contaminants from syrups and oils, ensuring product clarity.

Food Preservation

GAC helps control odors and spoilage agents, extending the freshness of stored food items.

Medical

Description:High-purity PAC is used as an active ingredient in pharmaceutical products and treatments for its detoxifying properties.

Medicine

Serves as an active ingredient in oral antidotes for drug overdoses and poisonings, adsorbing toxins within the gastrointestinal tract.

Blood Purification

Used in hemoperfusion cartridges to directly remove toxins from the blood in cases of certain poisonings or liver failure.

Chemical

Description: GAC assists in chemical processes by adsorbing unwanted compounds and catalyzing reactions, improving efficiency and purity.

Desulfurization

It removes sulfur compounds from gases and liquids, reducing corrosion and emissions.

DeNOx

GAC adsorbs nitrogen oxides from exhaust streams, aiding in air pollution control.

Mercury Removal

It captures mercury from flue gases and wastewater, mitigating environmental hazards.

Catalytic

GAC serves as a catalyst support in chemical reactions, enhancing process rates and selectivity.
